Upcoming: Hangana Hake Run & Ride and Namibia Tour

MTBMe (12).jpg

Speak to any Namibian and they will tell you that the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are the epitome of sand, sea and fun in the sun. Dotted along the central coastline just 30km apart and sandwiched between the foggy Atlantic Ocean and the majestic sand dunes of the Namib Desert, both towns are favoured holiday destinations and important centres of tourism activities. Although very different in character, each town has its own allure and unique attractions.

Each year in early October, the towns get together and host a whole day’s worth of fun and active events at the Hangana Hake Run & Ride, ranging from mountain biking to fatbiking and road running.

Join us for this super fun day out on Saturday 5 October 2019, either as an extension of your existing Namibia safari with us (run by our sister company Nature Travel Namibia), or as a starting point for your Namibia safari.

Enquire directly at info@naturetravelactive.com and we will set up the perfect itinerary for you!

Skukuza Half Marathon & Kruger Park Safari

A unique race run in a unique place. The Castle Lager Skukuza half marathon is held in and around the small staff village of the Kruger National Park’s headquarter camp of Skukuza in the heartland of one of Africa’s greatest wildlife refuges. Two hours before the start of the race a squad of rangers whose task it is to ensure the safety of all athletes during the race, travel by vehicle and on foot along the course to herd off any big game which would disrupt the race. At the same time the SANParks helicopter lifts off to ensure that no elephants, rhinos and lions get too close to the route. More than a thousand athletes line up at the start on the “village green” and are set off by a recording of a lion roar. A uniquely wild and exciting run!

SkukuzaHalf (1)

After this amazing run in the African wilderness, we will take you on a classic African Big 5 safari in one of South Africa’s national treasures and one of Africa’s great parks, the Kruger National Park. It covers a vast 19485 square kilometres (7523 sq miles). Areas of the park were first protected by the government of South Africa in 1898, and it became the country’s first national park in 1926. It is now part of the massive Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. It welcomes more than 1.5 million visitors every year, in accommodation ranging from basic campsites to super luxurious 5-star lodges. All of the famous Big Five game animals are found in Kruger National Park, which has more species of large mammals than any other African game reserve (at 147 species). Also, over 520 species of birds have been seen in “Kruger”, as it is affectionately known.

We can cater to your specific individual needs when it comes to your Skukuza Half Marathon and Kruger Safari, customising the length and order of your trip any way you prefer it. Or, you can allow us to suggest the best trip for you. Whichever option you choose, you can be assured of an amazing African running and wildlife safari!

Maasai Mara Marathon & Kenya Safari

It’s more than just a run. It’s the adventure of a lifetime. The Maasai Mara Marathon is a spectacular 21.1km (13mile) race held in the scenic and world acclaimed Maasai Mara National Reserve. The route provides runners with the opportunity to see the migratory herds of zebra and wildebeest, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, giraffe and a variety of other game species. The race’s main objective is to raise funds to support conservation of the Mara National reserve as well as community-based projects around the Mara. The race is a highly visible athletic event with immense media covering, with the main aim to raise funds towards conservation of the Maasai Mara ecosystem and raise awareness of the plight of the communities and wildlife that live within and around the Mara.

Kenya has been one of the top African Wildlife destinations for a long time (the country also won the Africa’s leading beach destination award from the World Travel Awards recently) and on this safari after your spectacular run through the Mara we will visit the main attractions with the idea to get away from the crowds. Apart from the Maasai Mara, the country also boasts Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park as well as the Tsavo East and West National Parks. We will focus on the personal touch and all the natural aspects of this beautiful and wildlife rich area and not just to chase after the Big 5, although we will probably see them too!
